BRIAR RANCH

Baby Veit's Nursery Mood Board Reveal + The Room We Couldn't Wait to Demo

The countdown is officially on with baby's due date just 20 weeks away, so we've been hitting the demo hard on the back bedroom that we now have officially deemed the nursery! During our first walkthrough of the house prior to purchasing, this room jumped right out at me as the obvious choice for the baby's room. It's tucked into our quiet back hallway and gets the most serene natural light all day long, not to mention a little budding rose garden that backdrops both windows! I instantly imagined daily cuddle sessions in a rocker near the window, and from there I literally couldn't stop the flow of design ideas running through my head.

Did we make an offer on this house just for the satisfaction of getting rid of the angry bulldog? We'll never tell. But to prove that literally anything we do to this space would be an absolute improvement, here's a little glimpse into what we started with...

So, aside from the stained white carpet, oily walls, the mural we won't mention again, and the blade-less fan, this room feels like a true blank canvas! Whoever originally designed this house actually did a great job keeping things centered and symmetrical, so the double windows in here really make my little designer heart very happy.

When it came to selecting finishes and furniture for our future nursery, I took a few key factors into consideration and really let everything evolve from there. The first and most critical being the fact that we aren't finding out the gender of our baby until birth, so I decided that taking a more soft and neutral route with everything was the way to go. Since the palette was going to be more subdued, I wanted to let layered textures have their way in the space bringing in the visual interest that way while also making sure this room could easily evolve over time as baby gets older.

Lastly, I think it's worth mentioning that I iterated and re-iterated the mood board for this room 3-4 times before landing the final design for budget reasons. Since every single space in our new house needs quite a bit of attention, I've gotten pretty good at shopping my favorite looks down online to work within our bigger-picture budget for the whole house. I love starting with inspiration from retailers like Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware and scouring the web for similar products at a lower price point that I love just as much. Even though I would consider some of these design choices 'budget options', the final palette still holds the sophisticated feel I was hoping for and I'm so excited about saving the cash for the other rooms in our house!

I can barely wait to see all these elements come together in real life and start making sweet memories with our new babe in just a few months!

Sconces - the finish in the product pictured has since been discontinued, but this option from Target is similar at an unbeatable price
