It's the adventure we really didn't see coming. Like at all.
It started with a kindly worded eviction notice from the landlord of our previous rental and ended with a very positive pregnancy test. In a matter of 72 hours, our life as we knew it flipped in more large ways than one, and we felt ready and only a small amount of terrified to tackle this oncoming tornado of change.
So we bought our first house! I have to admit I did imagine the whole first-time home buying thing a little differently in my head. As in, I didn't quite anticipate that we should go ahead and prepare for war over the first livable dwelling that popped up on the MLS, or magically appear with 10% over already higher than normal asking prices. In my little fantasy, we'd schedule a whole array of private showings and spend a few days contemplating all the pros and cons over local coffee and several solid nights of sleep. Our little HGTV daydream.
Sweet girl.
To make a very long story short, we quickly found the rancher. With great bones, a yard with acreage, and finally a second bathroom (hallelujah), we saw that it had all the pieces we needed for this next season of life. It was far from love at first sight, but it was just enough of a blank canvas that we felt confident we could make it our own and eventually fall in love with it.
And just to bring that point all the way home, here are some of her most shining features as shown in the listing...
The waterfall mural gets me every time!
While it's hard to tell from photos alone, the overall layout of spaces in the house is pretty close to perfect for us, so luckily, there's hardly a need for any structural or major shifts in spaces. Most of what we plan to do will be major cosmetic upgrades with some smaller adjustments when it comes to openings and transitions.
Our exterior speaks that great ranch-home language, but we also plan to tackle a full exterior update at some point as well. The day we made our offer, I did a little Photoshop editing to get the ideas flowing for the outdoors.
Here's what our exterior looks like today...
But here's what it could look like with a little paint and a few modern touches!
More than anything, we are so thankful to have this roof over our heads as we jump into a new chapter and gear up for the arrival of our first baby! My mind is racing with all the ideas for every inch of this place and I can't wait to put pen to paper and pull this little rancher out of the 90's!
